What to take in your back pack when walking

Take several elasticised bandages for sprains or snake bite and pins to hold them in place.  See First Aid

If you take a camera, have spare batteries and memory cards

Drinks and snacks as needed, and small plastic freezer bags for removing your rubbish

Small binoculars depending on the type of walk

Take a satellite phone, SPOT messenger or PLB when hiking in remote areas or difficult conditions.

You may also want tissues or toilet paper (put into your rubbish bag and take back with you if used)

A small back pack is adequate for day walks.  This list does not cover your needs if hiking involves overnight camping

When hiking you will need to carry at minimum some drinking water, and probably your camera

If one partner walks on their own, each should have a hand held two-way with fully charged batteries, and both be certain of the channel you will use.

Depending on grade of walk, possibly you will want to take a compass or hand held GPS
