These pages will feature some of the wildflowers we have photographed in Western Australia, and where possible, identified.  If you are able to help identify further flowers, or correct any I may have wrong, please contact us.
 
Information given for each species will give botanical name, known common names, describe the flower, give time of year it flowered, and where it was photographed, and the areas it occurs in.  Names have been matched to Florabase which has also been used to show distribution.

Caladenia caesarea subsp. caesarea, Mustard Orchid, Cara, Kararr, Kar
A tall spider orchid with slender yellow petals tipped with red.  The wide and elongated yellow labellum has rows of red stripes (of calli). Below is a paler variation. 
October
Mayanup (Boyup Brook area), South West Region, Western Australia and found in scattered locations through the South West and Great Southern regions.

The Aboriginal names Cara, Kararr, or Kar covered a number of different Spider Orchids.

Caladenia cairnsiana, Zebra Orchid
A very tiny orchid with rusty coloured petals and a cream labellum with red stripes. Two rows of raspberry-like bobbles as a form of calli on the labellum. The tip of the labellum has a maroon thick edge. Slender leaf is shown at left.
Spring
Bridgetown, South West Region, Western Australia and found mainly in the South West and Great Southern Regions, and along the coastal strip to Esperance. Some sightings in the Wheatbelt.

Caladenia brownii, Karri Spider Orchid

A green or yellow spider orchid with rusty red bands down the petals.  Labellum has long fringes and the tip is dark red.  A short hairy leaf.

November
Southern parts of the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes, and found through the Karri forests and further in the lower South West and lower Great Southern regions.

Caladenia corynephora, Club-lipped Spider Orchid

A small colourful Spider orchid with clubbed petal tips and uniquely this species has a point which is also clubbed at the tip of the labellum. Clubbed petals are fairly short, and lower two may be crossed. The elongated labellum has raspberry-like calli and extra-long fringes.

Northcliffe, in the Manjimup Shire, and occurs fairly close to the coast from Busselton to east of Albany and inland to Manjimup, favouring damper environments. 

Caladenia denticulata subspecies denticulata, Yellow Spider Orchid

A lovely creamy yellow spider orchid, with fine red lines down the petals into the dark red tip extensions.  Labellum is white with red dotted line markings, and similar on the column. Column is green with a yellowish tip.  Calli are thick and semi-translucent white.  Labellum fringes are short and thick, like a row of teeth.  Leaves and stems are hairy.

August

Wongan Hills, and found in areas nearer the coast from Mandurah to Three Springs, with inland specimens from near Wongan Hills, Goomalling and Kellerberrin.

Caladenia chapmanii, Chapmans Spider Orchid.

Caladenia chapmanii was named in 1983 after Dinninup farmer and orchid enthusiast Eric Chapman. 

A large red Spider Orchid with a wide white based labellum with red markingins and long and slender rich red petals. Colours can vary through shades of red or yellow with red markings and petal tips.

Dinninup (Boyup Brook shire), South West region, Western Australia.  Found in parts of the

South West and southern Wheatbelt, with and occurrence recorded in the northern Wheatbelt near Dalwallinu.
