Barrier Highway through to New South Wales

341_nsw_img_4963.jpg 341_barrier_hwy_img_4962.jpg
Nearing the small 'border town' of Cockburn, the highway swings over the railway line on a bridge.

Once into New South Wales, the land was flat for a short way, then we crossed the Thackaringa Hills, seeing where we stopped for the night on our return from Queensland in 2004.  There were lots of feral goats along the roadside through the hills.

Former Lockup at Cockburn.

We drove through the small town, and on into New South Wales.
Some of the photos on this and the next few pages have been contributed, and may have been taken in different seasons to our trip.  Thank you for your contributions.

Border Gate is a former hotel now a roadhouse, just across the border at Cockburn, and in New South Wales.  The New South Wales part of Cockburn used to be known as Burns.  There has been an Hotel here since at least the 1870's. The Hotel closed in 1986 and is now the Border Gate Truck stop.

The border is roughly in a line following the road we are looking down.

The current Cockburn Hotel is in South Australia, across the road from the Lockup (photo above).
