Heading to the Eastern States for a winter tour

750xbanner_kapatur_dscf5225sc.jpg
We cross the Nullarbor once again, as we head east, through South Australia, to tour New South Wales, Southern Queensland and a little of Victoria over eleven weeks.

We see whales at the Head of Bight, continue through South Australia and into New South Wales.  Here we tour Broken Hill and the Menindee Lakes before heading north to Tibooburra and Cameron Corner.

In Queensland we visit towns including Eromanga in the heart of Dinosaur country, Quilpie, Charleville home to the Cosmos centre, Cunnamulla, Thallon, and Mungindi on the Queensland - New South Wales border.

We visit Dirranbandi and Hebel before returning to New South Wales.  Here we tour at Lightning Ridge, soak off the winter chill at Pilliga Bore Baths, see Sculptures in the Scrub at Dandy Gorge, and head to Coonabarabran before visiting the Warrumbungle National Park.

We stop in at Gulargambone, go to Gilgandra the head north again to Narrabri where we drive to the peak of Mount Kaputar (photo above).  Returning via Coonabarabran and Gilgandra, we revisit the Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo.

We head to Orange and see snow falling on Mount Canobolas, go through Parkes to Condobolin from where we take a day trip to see the painted silos at Weethalle.

We go to Nyngan, the Macquarie Marshes, Coonamble and Walgett.  At Brewarrina we see Aboriginal stone fish traps in the river, one of the oldest mad-made structures in the world.  We go to Bourke and follow the Darling River to Wilcannia, on to another opal mining town White Cliffs, and stay in the Mutawintji National Park.

Heading south we go to Wentworth at the confluence of the Darling and Murray Rivers, and cross into Victoria. We stay at the Pink Lake section of the Murray-Sunset National Park and visit small rural towns before reaching South Australia.

From Pinaroo we head north to Loxton, Moorook and Waikerie and Morgan on the Murray River.  From here we go to Burra, Crystal Brook and north to Port Augusta.  Touring around the Eyre Peninsula, we go to Cowell, Cleve, Lock, Elliston, Venus Bay and Streaky Bay.

We rejoin the Eyre Highway at Ceduna, then head to Western Australia along the Eyre Highway.  Back in Western Australia, we visit Peak Charles, Esperance, Ravensthorpe then head westwards towards home from Jerramungup in the spring wildflower flush.
