Hot springs – Bore Baths

Just beyond and on the opposite side of Shermans Way to the Opal Caravan Park, this bore baths is easy walking distance from the caravan park.  Pandora Street becomes Shermans Way as you leave the town.

The water found in the bore baths at Lightning Ridge comes from the Great Artesian Basin and is approximately two million years old.  Natural pressure sends the water to the surface through an artesian bore and it maintains a temperature 41.5 degrees Celsius.  People were sitting on the edge of the two round pools with feet touching the water, rather than fully immersed at this high temperature.  We chose not to go into the water at these Bore Baths, as we prefer somewhat cooler ones.
