Some visitors to the park since that time have reported poor maintenance issues which may pertain to the ageing condition of the older block.

Wongan Hills Caravan Park, Wongan Hills, Western Australia

Wongan Road (main road through the town), Wongan Hills.

Irvine Street, Sandstone.  Park is well signed from the main street.  Bitumen road access to and through town.  Easy walk to town centre and Hotel from a good meal from caravan park.

Parking area is dirt (it is in a dry region), roomy, almost level and suitable for drive through and long rigs. It advertises 30 bays, but there were usually only a dozen or so campers per night when we stayed.

Park has been refurbished with 40 sites around a central grassed communal area.  Additional amenities block features roomy unisex all in one bathrooms (2015).

This caravan park in the tiny town of Sandstone has the one of the best amenities blocks of any caravan park, being run by a Shire whose total population is only 116 people (as at 2008).  It is well designed, well maintained and looks near new although it is eight years old. Shower cubicles are large, and mats are provided in the dressing area.  Large mirrors with make-up lighting over basins area, with hand wash pumps and paper towels provided. Water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, exhaust fans, disability access bathroom and baby change room.  Video surveillance and a well lit exit sign over door.  Block is close to all sites.  Washing machines cheap at $2.40 per load. Machines kept very clean. Showers available for people not staying at $3.

Clean barbecue in a barbecue area.

Tourism:  Heritage Trail drive incorporating the Sandstone Arch (London Bridge), Brewery site in a man made cave and mining history.  Neat town with friendly people and history on display at the Information Centre and in the Shire building.

Alice Atkinson Caravan Park, Sandstone

Pros:  Lovely amenities, splash free side wall showers with huge dressing area mats.  Fairly quiet (highway noise beyond rear of park is audible).  Disability and baby change bathrooms.  Roomy sites.  Pets permitted.  Friendly park hostess kept the amenities in top order.

Cons:  Dirt, however grassed sites are not expected in dry inland regions.

$20 for two per night powered. Update July 2015 $25 powered, seniors and weekly discounts apply.

Date of stay: September 2008.
