Closures in the North 
In Western Australia the Gibb River Road is CLOSED.  Following rain (ex tropical cyclone Yvette) the Great Northern Highway betweenMeekatharra and Newman was closed 27th December 2016 but was RE-OPENED with caution later in the day . 
 
In Queensland theDonohue Highway is CLOSED 27th December 2016. 
 
In the Northern Territory in addition to Kakadu closures:
 
MatarankaBitter Springs access road, John Hauser Drive and Mataranka Homestead Road CLOSED 1st January 2017 due to flooding.  Bitter Springs, andMataranka Homestead are again CLOSED 22nd January 2017 with rising water levels likely to also close John Hauser Drive during the day. 
 
Buntine Highway now IMPASSABLE at Armstrong and Townsend Rivers (between Top Springs and Kalkarindji).
 
Plenty Highway is CLOSED 28th December 2016. 
 

Berry Springs Nature Park - With over 200 mm of rain in two days, many waterholes are CLOSED due to the turbulence of the water and increased risk of saltwater crocodiles entering the area. Most will remain closed for the duration of the Wet season

 

Butterfly Gorge Nature Park and Tjuwaliyn Hot Springs (Douglas Hot Springs) are now CLOSED for the remainder of the Wet due to flooding.

 

Garig Gunak Barlu National Park (Coburg Peninsula) is CLOSED.

 

Florence Falls along with Buley Rock Hole were OPENED for swimming 24th December 2016 with proviso conditions may change quickly - yes CLOSED again pm 27th December 2016.  Litchfield National Park - as heavy rain continues to fall in the Top End, The Lower Cascades, Florence andWangi Falls along with Buley Rock Hole remain CLOSED TO SWIMMING until further notice from 22nd December 2016.  Florence andBuley Rock Hole CLOSED TO SWIMMING again 22nd January 2017.

 

The Lost City, Reynolds River 4WD Track including Surprise Creek Falls, Sandy Creek Falls and Blyth Homestead are all now CLOSED for the remainder of the wet season.  Walker Creek and Bamboo Creek have now had a lot of inundation and will remain CLOSED for the remainder of the wet season.

 

Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park - Rainfall is now impacting on the caves and the access road. The Park will be CLOSED from 21st December 2016.

 

Limmen National Park - Access to Limmen National Park via the Nathan River Road is CLOSED due to flooding. We will keep everyone informed should the road re-open. The Munbililla Camp Ground remains OPEN to those people accessing by boat from the Roper River.

 

Keep River National Park - The majority of the Park is CLOSED due to flooding, access remains to the Ranger Station and the Information Centre.

 

Judburra / Gregory National Park - Limestone gorge campground, Calcite flow walk and Bullita campground in Judbarra/Gregory National Park are now CLOSED due to flooding.

Fire impact on Karijini National Park and CLOSURES
Update: With the fire no longer a considered a danger due to rainfall, please note that the closures will remain for several weeks while the area is cleaned up and made safe. 
 
Fire is impacting on Karijini National Park with the closure of Dales Campground and Day area, Circular Pool and Fortescue Falls.  Banjima Drive has been closed at Karijini Drive and Kalamina Road.

Fire and Floods

The Great Northern Highway in Western Australia has been RE-OPENED between West Swan Road and Warbrook Road in Upper Swan after being closed due to a bushfire.  The bushfire emergency warning is still current.  Please avoid the area.   

TheGreat Northern Highway, Western Australia
RE-OPENED following closure on 6th January 2017 between Derby Highway intersection and Fitzroy Crossing due to rising water at Blina floodways (approximately 85km south east of the intersection).  

 

Geikie Gorge National Park will be CLOSED until further notice 29th December 2016 due to high and fluctuating levels of the Fitzroy River.

 

The Ordnance area in Mount Frankland South National Park, including the Deep River area and Centre Road Crossing campsite, bounded by South Western Highway, Beardmore Road, Doug Road, Angove Road and Railway Parade will remain CLOSED for several weeks. There is active fire in the Deep River system from a prescribed burn that was first lit on 12 October 2016. The area will remain closed until the prescribed burn is completed and the area is made safe. Signage is in place and roads and tracks have been closed.

 

In the Northern Territory roads and parks CLOSED include all or parts of the Tablelands Highway, Barkly Stock Route, Buchanan Highway, Calvert Road, Ranken Road, Litchfield Park Road, Bitter Springs access road, Elsey National Park, Mataranka Homestead, Wollogorang Road, Nathan Rover Road and Roper Highway. Update: Jon Hauser Drive Mataranka has been reopened but many sites accessed from the road remain closed.

South West Highway, Bedfordale, Western Australia RE-OPENED due to fire
South West Highway from Bedfordale Hill Road to Eleventh Road, Bedfordale which was closed late afternoon 8th February 2017 due to bushfire is now OPEN with traffic 9th February 2017.

Parts of the Northern Territory and Western Australia are experiencing recurring flooding
Victoria Highway CLOSED 26th January 2017 from Big Horse campground to Western Australia/Northern Territory border. Water levels still rising.
 
N'Dhala Gorge Nature Park CLOSED 26th January 2017 until further notice due to flooding of access road.
 
Stuart Highway - caution is required between Larrimah and Highway Inn where floodways are flowing at 150 mm deep and rising.  Caution also required at floodways on the Victoria Highway
 
Buntine Highway is impassable at Armstrong River about eleven kilometres west of Top Springs
 
In Central Australia Luritja Road at the Kings Creek crossing (near Kings Canyon Resort) and Kings Canyon Access Road are closed due to very high and fast flowing water over both roads. There is a chance of more rainfall throughout the day so further closures may occur.
 
Bitter SpringsJohn Hauser Drive and Mataranka Homestead are again CLOSED 22nd January 2017
 
Buchanan Highway CLOSED from Stuart Highway to Top Springs due to flooding
 
Millstream part of the Millstream-Chichester National Park in the Pilbara, Western Australia, is CLOSED due to water levels.
 
CAUTION in Western Australia with water over the North West Coastal Highway, Great Northern Highway in multiple locations, both through the Gascoyne and Pilbara and in the  Kimberley.  Other roads in these areas are also affected and there are some closures.  The Great Northern Highway which was close 19th January 2017 between Meekatharra and Capricorn Roadhouse has RE-OPENED with CAUTION 20th January 2017. 
 
In the Nitmiluk National Park in the Northern Territory, Leliyn Loop walk and swimming in the upper pools at Edith Falls/Leliyn have been CLOSED due to the recent river rise. They are expected to reopen tomorrow.

Continuing heatwave in the Eastern States
There has been some relief from the heat in South Australia and Western New South Wales 12th February 2017 but on the eastern side,New South Wales is still suffering extremely hot weather and severe to catastrophic fire danger. 
 

UPDATE 13th February 2017: Sadly Uarbry suffered extensive damage overnight, with most houses being lost. 

 

An emergency warning is in place 12th February 2017 for a bush fire to the east of Dunedoo, north of the Golden Highway. The fire is moving in an Easterly direction towards Uarbry and Turill. The Golden Highway has been CLOSED between Black Stump Way and Vinegaroy Road due to smoke.

 

There are a number of fires burning in the Mid Coast region, currently burning in an easterly direction in the Greater Taree, Gloucester, Wauchope and Great Lakes areas.  Thunbderbolts Way has been CLOSED between Scone Road and Nowendoc Village. 

 
With high temperatures being experienced over most of the continent, this has brought very high fire hazards, total fire bans, and closures of many parks and forests. 
 
Check for fire bans in your or where you plan to travel. 
 
National Parks throughout New South Wales have been CLOSED due to the extreme fire risk.   
 
Forestry Corperation New South Wales have CLOSED forest to visitors and campers due to the extreme fire danger
 
All State forests between the Central Coast and Kempsey, all State forests in the Pilliga region and Tallaganda State Forest on the southern tablelands have been closed from Friday 10 February until Monday 13 February due to high fire danger. Sydney’s Cumberland State Forest will also be closed on Saturday 11 February.

Forestry Corporation of NSW’s Senior Manager Forest Stewardship Kathy Lyons said the forests had been closed in consultation with the Rural Fire Service Deputy Commissioner due to the high threat of bushfire.

“All State forests in the Central Coast and Greater Hunter, including Strickland State Forest, the State forests of the Watagan Mountains, the State Forests of the Barrington Tops and State forests in the Dungog, Bulahdelah, Taree, Kendall, Wauchope and Kempsey areas are closed for the weekend due to the high fire danger,” Ms Lyons said.

“Sydney’s Cumberland State Forest will be closed on Saturday 11 February and re-assessed on Saturday afternoon.
“The closures will affect popular camp grounds and picnic areas in Olney, Heaton and Strickland State forests, and recreation areas along the Allyn River and Telegherry River in the Chichester State Forest as well as Lowden Forest camp site in Tallaganda State Forest.

UPDATE 13th February 2017Cooinda Lodge as RE-OPENED and Yellow Waters boat cruises are operating again. 
 
Drive with caution Nourlangie causeway has water over the 0.5 metres high clearance 4WD with Snorkel only.  Water over the road on the Nourlangie Bridges on Kakadu Highway please drive with care.

 
Cahill's Crossing has CLOSED due to water levels, safety and cultural reasons.
 
Magela Creek is CLOSED at 1.2 metres and rising. 
 
Yurmikmik Walks now CLOSED.
 
Mamukala is now CLOSED due to high water levels.

Northern Territory CLOSURES storm warnings and flooding
Carpentaria Highway has been RE-OPENED with CAUTION with speed limits 14th February 2017.
 
Severe weather warning with damaging winds and heavy rainfall in the top end 11th and 12th February 2017.
 
A number of roads are CLOSED, have water over them or are damaged, including in and around Darwin.  With more heavy rain forecast in the Top End drive with caution.
 
UPDATED 13th February 2017: Stuart Highway now OPEN : There is a lot of water flowing across the highway to the north of Katherine which may again close the highway.  Stuart Highway was closed 12th February 2017 between Larrimah and Daly Waters due to flooding at the Highway Inn.
 

All areas of Elsey National Park are now CLOSED due to heavy rain and flooding in the area. John Hauser Drive, Mataranka now CLOSED due to rising waters. Martins Road Mataranka (access road to Bitter Springs) CLOSED due to flooding.  Mataranka Homestead Road closed due to flooding.

Karijini National Park was partially closed due to a fire last month, then rainfall CLOSED Karijini National Park.
 
Update 14th February 2017 Banjima East and Dales roads are open with extreme caution which includes the following sites:
• Dales camp ground
• Circular Pool
• Fortescue Falls
• Fern Pool
 
Parks and Wildlife recommend visitors using walk trails take extreme care and do not enter water pools that are brown or muddy and may contain unknown debris moved by flood waters.
 
The following parts of Karijini National Park remain CLOSED due to road damage:
• Banjima West road
• Weano, Joffre and Knox road
• Karijini Eco Retreat
• Weano, Joffre and Knox lookouts and walk trails
 
Due to road damage and flooding Banjima North road is CLOSED from Banjima West road to Banjima East road.
